SIR guidelines:

The new SIR guidelines for controllers will change in the beginning of 2021. From that moment, the SafeGround controller must be 2-wire to comply with the new guidelines.

The following technical changes will apply:

  •  The conduction between earth clamp and external earth point must be less than 11 ohms and must be continuously monitored (2-wire system).
  • The resistance of the earth point must be less than 1100 ohms.

EARTHxxx (general):

The  SafeGround controller, type EARTHxxx is a compact module that is placed in the electrical control board of the vehicle. The module checks whether the vehicle is correctly connected to an available external earth point via an earthing reel. The external earth point will be checked and if it is approved, permission is given to start the work.

Both controllers (ERARTH104 and EARTH204) are made of  an industrial compact plastic housing 55mm wide x 90mm high.

EARTH104 SafeGround controller:

The SafeGround controller EARTH104 is a microprocessor controlled module that in terms of work and specifications is similar to the EARTH204, except for the control of good conductivity with an external earth point. This conductivity must be lower than 11 ohms according to the new SIR guidelines.

The SafeGrount controller EARTH104 is a one-wire system and does NOT carry out this control. A one-wire system can only be connected to a standard one-wire earthing reel. The two-wire earthing reel EARTH325 is therefore less suitable for the EARTH104 SafeGround controller.

The EARTH204 is provided with 2 PNP transistor outputs to pass on the status of the controller to for example a PLC. This function will also not be available for EARTH104.

The SafeGround controller EARTH104 does the following check:

  •  Check if the resistance of the external earth point is lower than 1100 ohms.
  • Check if there is closure between earth clamp and the chassis of the vehicle.

EARTH204 SafeGround controller:

From the beginning of 2021, according to SIR (Industrial Cleaning Foundation), it has been determined that controllers must be 2-wire. The SafeGround controller EARTH204 is a microprocessor controlled module that is completely two-wire carried out (up to the earth clamp) and it generates an indication when a mobile vehicle is grounded safely to an external earth point.

The EARTH204 is provided with 2 PNP transistor outputs to pass on the status of the controller to for example a PLC.

The SafeGround controller EARTH204 does the following check:

  • Check whether the conductivity between clamp and earth point is less than 11 ohms
  • Check if the resistance of the earth point is lower than 1100 ohms.
  • Check if there is closure between earth clamp and the chassis of the vehicle.

EARTH325 SafeGound reel with cable and clamp:

The chassis of the vehicle is connected to an external earth point through the earthing reel. This earthing reel with cable and accompanying clamp is completely two-wire carried out and suitable for the EARTH204 SafeGround controller. The SafeGround controller EARTH204 and cable reel EARTH325 are therefore fully coordinated.

The earthing reel is already assembled on a plastic block, which makes insulated mounting very easy. The earthing reel is equipped with 25 meters of PUR cable 2x1.5mm² in the colour yellow (RAL1016) for maximum safety. The cable is suitable for wet, dry, warm (+90 ° C) and cold (-40 ° C) environmental conditions. Furthermore, the cable is very well resident against oil, hydraulic oil, aggressive substances, mechanical load and it is VDE tested. The reel is supplied completely assembled with clamp and cable.

Applicable standards and guidelines:

The SafeGround controller carries the CE label, which means that the product complies with the applicable European standards and guidelines. The SafeGround controller has been tested by a recognized testing agency and has the mandatory inspections. The Controller EARTH204 complies with the new SIR (Industrial Cleaning Foundation) guidelines that will come into effect at the beginning of 2021.
